Job description

Position OverviewThe William Allen White School of Journalism & Mass Communications is searching for a Director of Kansas Scholastic Press Association. This is a full-time, Non-Tenure Track, Academic Year position with an anticipated start date of August 18, 2024. This position is Limited Term with an initial appointment period of three years. Appointment renewal will be based on a comprehensive review.

The Director of KSPA serves as an advocate and helps create positive visibility for scholastic journalism in Kansas and beyond. The Director manages operations for the KSPA, and directs the annual summer Jayhawk Media Workshop. This position will also have instructional responsibilities as a lecturer teaching two courses per semester during the academic year. The Director of the Kansas Scholastic Press Association serves as a liaison between the School of Journalism & Mass Communications and KSPA.
Job Description 55% Administrative - Director of Kansas Scholastic Press Association 45% Teaching - Lecturer School of Journalism and Mass Communications: Required Qualifications
  1. Master’s degree in journalism or related field.
  2. Five (5) years’ experience teaching high school journalism, advising high school media or comparable high school advising.
  3. Experience in budget management.
  4. Experience in planning workshops, events, or programs.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Professional media experience.Experience in raising funds.
  2. University-level teaching experience.
  3. Experience in video editing, sports journalism, media marketing, design, or broadcast.
