Summary
Teachers and assistant teachers have the following professional responsibilities in meeting the goals of Children?s International School:
- to create a warm and loving atmosphere for the children entrusted to them; to engage in ongoing positive interaction with both children and adults in the school
- to plan daily activities which will help the child to develop socially, physically, emotionally, and intellectually
- to provide a healthy and safe environment
- to be aware of each child?s personality, needs, and problems
- to see that meals and snacks are properly served to all children
- to notify parents to injuries and leave a copy in the files (see procedure in handbook)
- to keep accurate daily records of attendance and meal participation
- to see that each child understands the evacuation plan for fire drills
- to see that the housekeeping chores are carried out each day
Duties Job Description for: Teaching Assistant (Aide) Purpose: To assist the teacher in providing a warm and nurturing environment in which the child can grow physically, emotionally, and intellectually.
- To interact, initiate, and encourage the children in the activities during the day.
- To help the children control behavior using a positive, appropriate approach; always using consistent technique.
- To provide nurturing but also help the children become independent.
- To promote integral learning during snack times; to help the children learn good social skills.
- To maintain good communication with parents and to make each parent feel at ease with the preschool.
- To assist the teacher in planning activities for the group and to offer suggestions and information about the children.
- To develop a cooperative and supportive attitude within the room.
- To assist the head teacher in record-keeping by assisting with observations regarding children?s health, behavior, and development.
- To function and help build a supportive team
Requirements - At least 18 years old.
- At least one year (1820 hours) of verified experience in group care of unrelated children under six years of age.
- Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to preschool children.
- Evidence of enough security and judgment to handle crisis situations.
- Sensitivity to children?s individual needs.
- Ability to use appropriate and positive discipline.
- Dependability.
- Physical stamina
- current First Aid/CPR certification

About Us Children?s International School, based in Alexandria, Virginia, is seeking an energetic, creative Lead Teacher in our Pre-K classroom. The ideal candidate enjoys working with children as they inquire about the world and explore their curiosities from their perspective. Duties Include:
- Maintain good communication with parents and make each parent feel at ease at the preschool.
- Promote positive behavior and good social skills with the children by applying consistent techniques in accordance with licensing standards.
- Interact with the children and encourage them in their activities during the day.

Qualifications:
At least two years of teaching experience in a licensed preschool or childcare program
Relevant education background: CDA, AA, BS/BA in ECE or a child-related field
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Dependable, enthusiastic, and committed
Ability to record significant individual and group behavior.
