Job Responsibilities

South Carolina Department of Mental Health Agency

With our Agency's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses, we provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina.


Catawba Community Mental Health Center serves York, Chester and Lancaster Counties of South Carolina.

Under the general supervision of the Catawba Community Mental Health Center (CCMHC) Medical Director, provides on-site psychiatric services to CCMHC patients.


Evaluates the need for, plans and provides psychiatric treatment for outpatient and emergency services for the patients of the Catawba Community Mental Health Center during a normal work week (37.5-40 hours).


Consults and collaborates with staff (case managers and therapists) in formal (SPD, treatment teams), as well as, informal settings. Assists Medical Director and Clinical Services Directors in assuring that clinical staff receive appropriate clinical supervision.


Provides supervision and guidance to Nurse Practitioner as needed.


Other duties as assigned, to include completing designated exams as required.


Employee must perform all job duties and provide all services and documentation in compliance with CARF, SCDMH, CCMHC, Quality Assurance, Compliance, HIPAA, Transcultural, and Productivity Standards, Policies and Procedures.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Min.State T&E: Licensed to practice medicine in SC Completion of full residency (4years) in psychiatry.


Preferred Qualifications

Agency Requirements:

Min. Internal T&E : Thorough knowledge of biopsychosocial model of psychiatric diagnosis, care and treatment for Catawba Mental Health clients, graduation from an accredited medical school, completion of an internship or one year residency training. Licensed to practice medicine in SC., M.D. or D.O. Eligible for Board Certification in psychiatry.

Catawba CMHC is also an approved site of the National Health Service Corps, (NHSC), which offers student loan repayment of up to $50,000 to employees of NHSC - approved sites. You must be a US citizen, you must be licensed to practice independently in the state where you are hired, and you must have unpaid government or commercial school loans. There is a two year service commitment required as well. Confirmation of qualifying for this loan repayment program is the responsibility of every applicant - we cannot guarantee your qualification.
