Job Summary

The Graduate School is seeking a Graduate Writing Center Director. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.


The Graduate School’s primary missions are to advance graduate education, to assure quality and unquestionable standards in graduate education, and to maintain the integrity of approximately 90 graduate programs and the individuals participating in them. To this end, the Graduate School implementspolicies and procedures; coordinates programs, courses, admissions standards and degree requirements; certifies and awards all graduate degrees; and provides graduate student and faculty support services.

The Graduate Writing Center (GWC) is located organizationally within the Graduate School with physical spaces at the Valley Library in the Graduate Student Commons. The GWC supports graduate student success through writing assistance. The Director is responsible for providing leadership to the GWC including, but not limited to, its day-to-day management, budgeting, staffing, supervision, training, programming, assessment, and broader strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities

50% Provide overall leadership for the Graduate Writing Center including, but not limited to its day-to-day management, budgeting, staffing, supervision, training, programming, assessment, and broader strategic planning including research and benchmarking as it relates to comparator institutions and the development of recommendations for addressing changing and emergent needs; establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with units across the institution to determine the needs of graduate students, graduate faculty members, and other stakeholders and determine appropriate and innovative ways to address these needs.

25% Conduct intake appointments with graduate students seeking writing support services, 1:1 tutoring sessions, and/or facilitate graduate student writing groups.

15% Develop and facilitate trainings and workshops for graduate students, graduate faculty mentors, and graduate instructors related to effective graduate writing and mentoring.

5% Participate in professional development to stay current with trends and promising practices as they relate to the position via conferences, webinars, and other professional development activities.

5% Serves on Graduate School and university teams, task forces, and committees, as needed and as is appropriate; provides support for related Graduate School initiatives.



What You Will Need

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
