Job description
Halifax Health is seeking a Screener for the Behavioral Services Department.
This individual is responsible for the screening and intake of voluntary patients and involuntary patients under the Florida Mental Health Act (Baker Act) for admission to the inpatient unit or referral for outpatient services.
- Registered Nurse with a minimum of one year experience in the mental health field or Master's Degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work from an accredited school and registered/licensed in the State of Florida as a LMHC, LMFT, LCSW or PhD.
- BLS required.
- Knowledge of the Florida Mental Health Act (Baker Act) preferred.
- Responsible for the screening of voluntary and involuntary child and adolescent patients who arrive at HBS seeking services.
- Completes screening documentation in compliance with hospital, ACHA and Joint Commission standards.
- Contacts the physician to determine the disposition of the patient and the recommended treatment and services.
- Provide information about services available at Halifax Behavioral Services to patients/families calling for information and/or refer them to appropriate outside agencies when applicable.
- Ability to respond to patients with empathy and with positive interpersonal skills.
- Recognizes potential escalation of behavior and has the ability to use appropriate and effective de-escalation skills.
- Ability to react calmly and therapeutically in a crisis situation.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and is compliant with HIPAA requirements.
- Exhibits organizational ability, sound judgment and initiative.
- Interacts positively and effectively with patient, family members and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Attends staff meetings, trainings, in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.
- Follows policy and procedures and all regulatory agencies requirements.
- Compliant with assigned schedule and time and attendance policy
- Performs other duties as assigned or directed.
