Job description
Under the direction of the MakerSpace Supervisor, the MakerSpace Technician preforms a wide range of moderately to complex technical and artistic duties in the MakerSpace room. Provides guidance and education on a host of technologies from hand tools, 3D printers, sewing machines, laser cutting and more.
Responsibilities
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
* Provides excellent Customer Service
* Greets patrons as they enter the MakerSpace room
* Assist Patrons with questions about the room, services or ideas for projects
* Provides training and instruction for staff and patrons in the use of MakerSpace resources:
- Laser Cutting
- 3D Printing (Basics and Advanced)
- Computer Aided Design (CAD and TinkerCAD)
- Sewing (Basics and Embroidery)
- Electronics (Basics and Soldering)
- Hand Tools
- Cricut Maker
- Vacuum Forming
- Sublimation Printings
- And additional workshops as needed
* Develops MakerSpace programs for a variety of technology, skill-levels and ages
* Machine Maintenance
* Cash handling for classes, services and supplies
* Creating images and write-ups for events to be posted on social media and event calendars
* Monitor and report all issues to supervisor
* Collaborate with other library branches and local government on project requests
* Ensure proper use of MakerSpace equipment and technology
Requirements
High School diploma required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
* Two years of * experience with MakerSpace technology, technology instruction or other creative-based work
* Strong written presentation and public speaking skills
* Excellent instructional and customer service skills
* Ability to exercise independent judgement within organizational and legal frameworks
* Experience with Google Sheets, Forms, Docs, Drive and Sites
* Proficiency in MS Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
* Familiarity with tools and equipment associated with a MakerSpace:
- 3D Printing: designing, slicing, printing and maintenance on FDM and SLA printers
- Electronics: Basic understating and soldering for circuits
- Sewing: Basics of patterns, simple projects
- Laser Cutting: Vector program and settings
- Power Tools
- Graphic Design: Canva or Illustrator
- Cricut Maker: Card Cutting, Vinyl, Print and Cut Stickers
- Computer Aided Design (CAD): Fusion360 and TinkerCAD
* Able to work with a flexible schedule that include weekdays, weekends and some evenings
Physical Requirements
* Must be able to lift, push/pull, hold/carry items weighing between (25) pounds up to (50) pounds such as MakerSpace supplies or machines
* Ability to stand up to 2 hours while teaching MakerSpace classes, workshops or camps
* Ability to sit and work on computer screens for an extended amount of time
