Department Overview

The Electric Planning Policy & Modernization (EPPM) team’s mission is to help PG&E prepare for the increasing complexities of the electric grid of today and the future. The EPPM team provides grid capacity data, develops state of the art software and tools, and deploys new processes, to enhance transparency into PG&E’s distribution planning which enables the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (e.g., solar PV, energy storage, energy efficiency, and demand response). As part of the Electric System Planning team, help us chart the future of the utility and the energy industry.

The EPPM team works collaboratively with diverse stakeholders both within and external to PG&E to develop new visualization and planning tools to inform grid capacity constraints and prepare for building and transportation electrification. The team works in a matrixed environment to identify barriers in delivering electric capacity to our customers and implements solutions to address them. The team also advocates for strategies and policies to procure and integrate DERs effectively and reliably through regulatory proceedings, such as Modernize the Electric Grid for a High Distributed Energy Resources (DER) Future .

Position Summary

The Electric Planning Policy & Modernization (EPPM) team is looking for an intern to support the development of new distribution planning tools based on advanced automated analytics of PG&E’s distribution grid.The successful internwill be interested in learning how PG&E plans for Distributed Energy Resources (e.g., solar PV, energy storage, energy efficiency, and demand response) and can apply and help develop analytical tools to clearly communicate our planning process to internal and external stakeholders.

The successful intern will help EPPM drive numerous initiatives including but not limited to:

The successful intern will have the opportunity to lead and/or support activities as described above working with a team of experienced Engineers and Analysts. Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Electric Engineering organization through the work they will be performing.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $23.85 to $35.11.
