DESCRIPTION

The Moores Cancer Center (MCC) is one of just 55 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States and the only one in San Diego County. As a consortium cancer center, it is a collaborative partnership between the UCSD: encompassing 28 departments, 6 schools (School of Medicine, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Public Health, Jacobs School of Engineering, School of Biological Sciences & the School of Physical Sciences), UCSD Health oncology hospitals and clinics; the basic and public health research and outreach of San Diego State University (SDSU), and the basic and translational research of the La Jolla Institute of Immunology (LJI). These various programs and units are all dedicated to fulfilling the Moores Cancer Center's mission of reducing cancer's burden. The Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCCC) at UCSD Health is embarking on a new trajectory to leverage its significant research and clinical strength which is embedded in an environment that values innovation and collaboration. We intend to re-envision how we prevent, detect, and treat cancer to improve the lives of cancer patients and the communities we serve. With a robust commitment from UCSD executive leadership, attractive resources across the MCCC/UCSD, an exciting San Diego biotech environment, and a new Cancer Center Director leading a dynamic new senior leadership team, we seek a Deputy Director for Administration to fill a key leadership role as we launch the next era of impact by the Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The UCSD Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCCC) Deputy Director of Administration (DDA) is the senior administrative executive who oversees all research operations, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) and partners with the MCCC Cancer Center Director to envision, map out, and executive the strategic plan for the MCCC. This position also partners with the MCCC Director and the other members of the MCCC senior leadership team, as well as UCSD Health System (HS) and School of Medicine (SOM) leaders to advance the MCCC to a position of academic and clinical eminence by fostering exceptional cancer research, patient care, education and training, community outreach and education. The ideal candidate is a creative and dynamic leader with the ability to inspire, collaborate and work effectively in a complex academic health system. The DDA is responsible for strategic planning and evaluation, research administration, personnel management, budgeting and financial operations, space and shared resources management, training and education, community outreach and engagement in alignment with the requirements of an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Responsible for financial and administrative leadership for a large, or multiple, health sciences interdisciplinary/ research departments or centers with clinical subdivisions. Participates with other senior leaders to establish strategic plans and objectives. Makes decisions on operational matters and ensures achievement of clinical, educational and research objectives. Reviews and approves recommendations for operational planning and control. Erroneous decisions will have serious impact on the overall success of the department, center and/or clinical enterprise.
