To help meet these goals, we are searching for a leader capable of supervising our reporting, technical accounting, and accounting strategy for Cary. Typical Tasks


Responsible for overseeing financial reporting of the Cary's financial condition;


Ensures Cary's adherence to state statutes, technical accounting pronouncements, federal guidelines and local ordinances as they relate to financial and reporting issues; analyzes and manages implementation of new requirements and serves as primary subject matter expert regarding these issues;


Prepares complex journal entries including annual full-accrual conversion adjustments and other audit related annual adjustments;


Provides reporting assistance, as needed for various financial initiatives i.e. presentations for rating agencies, assistance with the Official Statement requirements necessary for bond issuances;


Responsible for several state and federal reporting requirements, such as Powell Bill, Annual Financial Information Report, etc.;


Responsible for coordinating the Cary's financial audit by preparing various schedules, detailed analytical reviews and narratives; researches and reconciles items; answers questions and resolves problems; coordinates the external audit process including timing and scheduling staff responsibilities; develops the RFP and coordinates the selection of the auditor;


Oversees the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report00 (ACFR), which includes compilation of various exhibits, notes, schedules and statements within the ACFR;
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial data;


Maintains general ledger fund and account structure; ensures adherence to required guidelines; establishes new funds and accounts as needed; adjusts account code structure as needed; coordinates with other accounting staff and other departments to ensure budgetary and informational needs are met;


Develops recommendations on operational changes throughout the organization; administers implementation of certain changes as directed by the Finance Director; coordinates with other departments on other operational changes that are needed;


Assists in the development of policies and procedures in accounting and other related financial areas;


Participates in decisions regarding technology for the financial portion of software implementation; participates and assists with the research, coordination & implementation of new financial software for Cary;


Mediates personnel issues and coaches, trains and mentors staff to attain individual potential and effective management and operational results;


Communicates extensively with both internal and external customers of financial information;

Serves as part of Finance's leadership to develop and execute financial strategies that align with the company's goals and objectives;

Establishes and maintains robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensures compliance with regulatory standards;

Provides technical assistance on special projects and analyses as needed;


Performs other job-related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and governmental accounting; thorough knowledge of Federal and state grant rules and regulations and reporting requirements; thorough knowledge of modern office methods, practices and equipment; ability to work under pressure on several projects simultaneously and within time constraints; ability to analyze a problem and make independent judgements without close supervision; ability to analyze and evaluate financial information and cash balances; ability to perform independent research and develop recommendations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to supervise other personnel; ability to adapt to changing technology; strong team management skills, with the ability to build and maintain solid cross-functional relationships; excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to inspire confidence and momentum at all levels; be driven and pro-active with the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

What is Required?

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, public administration or a related field and extensive experience in complex financial reporting and/or accounting including some supervisory experience.
