Job Overview
The Application Engineer reports to the Director of Engineering and works with Cognition prospects and customers as the primary interface between the prospects/customers and the internal Cognition teams. They will act as a sales engineer to showcase the product and understand the customer's pain points. This role must be able to demonstrate, answer questions, and onboard customers to the suite of Cognition products, primarily Compass and Compass PRO. The engineer filling this position is expected to become the primary application engineer to support the Cognition sales team. The engineer is expected to be able to provide a strong product demo, showcasing the strengths of the product, and answering technical questions regarding its use and implementation.
This engineer will also work with existing and new customers to make sure they are successful in using Cognition products. As the technical point of contact for our clients, the Application Engineer's main goal is to understand and effectively communicate the clients' needs in order to make their implementations of Cognition products as successful and scalable as possible. This may include demonstrating, training, whiteboarding, strategizing, and configuring Cognition products. The goal should always be to present Cognition products in a positive but honest light and develop real, genuine relationships with our clients. The Application Engineer sometimes travels to the client site to meet with client-side product development teams, who typically consist of engineers, managers, quality assurance, and regulatory experts.
Systems engineering is a key part of the Application Engineering team and is essential for many aspects of the job. The Application Engineer must utilize systems engineering techniques, tools, and terminology to communicate effectively and create product development solutions with Cognition's products. Activities include providing voice of the customer detail on usage for the next generation of software, helping develop marketing collateral by providing industry knowledge or usage, and creating training materials.
The Application Engineer must be able to speak to the depth of capabilities of Cognition's products and act as a liaison between the client-side product development team and Cognition's software development team in an effort to complete a successful implementation. When necessary, the Application Engineer may create or debug configurations that require minimal software scripting. Organized ability to report progress and manage the project for the customer is highly desired. Executive presentations on status and next steps are expected.
