Job description

The Opportunity:
As a member of Canfor's Divisional Management Team, the Shipping and Mill Production Supervisor will ensure production schedules are created and completed on time and within budget, while following all safety regulations. In addition to coordinating and scheduling of sawmill, planer mill, and kiln production runs, the Supervisor will maintain inventory target levels while ensuring shipments are on time. The Supervisor will be responsible for the coordination and timely and accurate shipment of all rail and truck orders.

The Supervisor will supervise the Mill Production Coordinator to ensure that all production, shipping, inventory, and forecasting targets are met.

Responsibilities:

• Always maintain the highest standards with respect to Safety, leading by example, and ensuring the team follows all policies, procedures, practices, and regulations.
• Work with the production team to identify areas of improvement and look for opportunities to reduce costs, while safely meeting production targets.
• Ensure timely action is taken when production and quality targets are not met.
• Assist with forecasting planer mill production in coordination with the Supply Chain, Logistics, and Sales teams.
• Supervision and coordination of all related production employees and equipment related to shipping.
• Ensure lumber is properly stored and rotated to prevent quality degradation.
• Assist in taking physical inventories in accordance with corporate procedures.
• Determine & meet daily/weekly shipping requirements while achieving target inventories.
• Ensure that established safety, quality, cost, delivery, and employee engagement KPI's are met or exceeded on a consistent basis.
• Engage all employees to provide valuable input into work processes and systems.
• Work with all personnel to ensure compliance in safety, environment, and company policies.
• Foster a culture of knowledge sharing with other personnel.

The Candidate:

• Minimum Grade 12 education with preference given to candidates with relevant post-secondary education.
• Two plus years supervisory experience in a sawmill or a related industry.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with the ability to learn new programs.
• Strong written and oral communications.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with the flexibility to effectively respond to continually changing internal and external business conditions.
• Demonstrated safe work behavior and a working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
• Can build cooperative and trusting working relationships.
• Work with limited supervision.
• Highly organized, self-motivated.

Basic knowledge of the safe operation of large mobile equipment.
