Job description

We are seeking a Release of Information (ROI) Specialist I to join our dynamic VitalChart department. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in processing medical records requests with a commitment to accuracy and delivering top-notch service to our healthcare clients. Upholding patient privacy is paramount, and you will ensure that only authorized individuals have access to medical information, adhering to HIPAA regulations, federal/state statutes, and company policies.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

Process assigned Release of Information requests, focusing on Continuing Care and Disability Determination Services, with the possibility of cross-training on other request types.
Access requests and medical records according to specific procedures and security protocols.
Prioritize and complete requests daily, ensuring compliance with turnaround timeframes and established procedures.
Validate requests and patient authorizations for HIPAA compliance.
Classify request types accurately, log requests into ROI software, and perform Quality Control checks.
Handle phone inquiries, greet patients, and assist in completing medical record requests.
Collaborate with the ROI Area Manager and/or ROI Team Leader, keeping them informed of any concerns or issues.
Maintain confidentiality, security, and ethical standards with all information.
Address any connectivity issues, software malfunctions, or security risks in the work environment.
Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Experience Required:

High School Diploma (GED) required; degree preferred.
Prior experience with ROI fulfillment is preferred.
Strong attention to detail and demonstrated organizational skills.
Effective documentation and communication skills.
Ability to maintain productivity and quality performance.
Basic knowledge of medical records and HIPAA regulations preferred.
Familiarity with EHR/EMR platforms and Windows environment.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
Strong interpersonal skills with team members, clients, and requestors.
Computer proficiency and experience with office equipment.
Ability to stay focused on tasks for extended periods.
Working Conditions:

Ability to work at a computer screen and keyboard/mouse for 8 hours.
Adaptability to constant deadlines and changing healthcare environments.
Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, push, pull, and crouch.
Manual dexterity and strength for computer input, writing, and handling paperwork.
Normal or corrected eyesight for reading documents and viewing computer monitors.
Effective speaking and hearing abilities.
Ability to lift 20 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently.
Openness to change and willingness to consider variety in the workplace.
Professional response to challenging situations and a calm demeanor in high-stress scenarios.
Physical presence on-site is essential, unless the assignment is 100% remote.
