Clinical Referral Coordinator
Michigan State University Center for Counseling & Psychiatric Services (CAPS) provides a wide range of mental health services for students on campus, including and not limited to: screening/triage appointments, individual and group therapy, psychiatric services, outreach and multicultural engagement, clinical care coordination, intensive integrated clinical services, and hospitalization coordination and support. MSU is a large university with many resources and excellent benefits for employees; the CAPS department is undergoing a significant period of growth and expansion, including an expansion of our Clinical Coordination Unit. This position will be supporting the providers and students throughout the CAPS department.
As part of a multidisciplinary health team, they will communicate with other staff members to ensure each student being referred to services, internally and externally, connects with the appropriate provider. They will follow up with students when needed to ensure the initial appointment was attended, manage scheduling and documentation responsibilities, and gather and prepare statistical data for patient tracking and annual reports. The Clinical Referral Coordinator will support staff in clerical tasks, paperwork organization related to direct clinical service provision, document interactions in EHR, and participate in integrated mental health care team meetings. They will facilitate collaboration between providers and on-/off-campus agencies, follow up with students obtaining other services, assist staff with essential documentation tasks, gather data, and offer suggestions for program and service improvement. They will be a source of support and resource information for students, as well as staff, and will perform duties such as gathering biopsychosocial and personal history information, disability verification paperwork, and other academic and university documentation on behalf of CAPS providers.
The successful candidate will assist providers in scheduling and following up with students being referred for services, establish relationships with internal and external providers, engage with administration in our professional collaboration with hospital services, and demonstrate a commitment to multiculturalism and serving underrepresented/underserved populations.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related human services field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in counseling in a health/mental health environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; state licensure as bachelor level social worker.
