Qualification Requirements

Essential Functions
- Under general supervision, can be expected to process crime scenes for purposes of identifying and collecting relevant evidence for use in criminal prosecution, utilizing one or all of the following techniques: digital photography, diagrams and sketches, fingerprint collection procedures, plaster casts, and assorted physical and/or chemical tests.
- Writes reports documenting relevant information and testifies in criminal proceedings.

Requirements
Education Requirement
- Associate degree in a recognized science, such as Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Criminology.
Experience Requirement
- Three (3) years of experience in crime scene processing, photography, digital photography, and latent fingerprints.
Education and Experience Equivalency
- One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
Licensure and Certifications
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Special Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must successfully complete a polygraph examination and thorough background investigation.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or other crime involving moral turpitude.
- Must be able to pass physical examination.
- Must be certified or become certified within two (2) years of hire in at least one nationally or internationally recognized crime scene investigator certification such as: International Association for Identification, American Board of Medical Legal Death Investigators, or International Association of Blood Spatter Pattern Analysts. (Certification must be attached to application.)
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Physical exertion required under vigorous and unusual conditions.
- Must be able to bend, twist, walk, climb, crawl and kneel.
- Requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, requires sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting.
- Standard vision requirements.
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly.
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound.
- Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles and observing general surroundings and activities.
Working Environment
- Work is performed inside and outdoors, sometimes under inclement weather conditions and in confined spaces.
- May be exposed to loud noises, gasses, fumes, chemicals, body fluids, acids and contaminated needles.
- Must be able to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duty.
- Work occasionally requires exposure to environmental conditions.
- Some travel to off-site locations is required.
