Job description
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director and the Deputy Director, the se lected candidate will provide support to the Labor Department, which is responsible for grievance and charge handling as well as discipline for all employees.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Coordinate with the departments and facilities to obtain discovery.
Investigate charges, grievances, and possible discipline .
Negotiat e with internal agencies
Manage a docket of nearly 100 disciplinary actions for a major case.
Coordinate with Attorneys to ensure that they are prepared for hearings regarding the major case including the enlargement of exhibits, delivering documents/exhibits, and arranging for witnes s appearances .
Process authorizations to obtain medical records.
As time permits , be available for litigation paralegal duties suc h as:
Research and analyze collective bargaining agreements and sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes to prepare legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, or appeals, etc. for use by attorney.
Draft routine legal documents for review and use by Labor Relations and the Law Department .
Compile and prepare draft discovery and request for information responses.
Categorize and interpret data; review and analyze reports, responses and records produced by opposing counsel.
Coordinate requests b y multiple parties involved in hearings and litigation by way of consistent communication with stakeholders involved.
Qualifications :
Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:
B achelor’s degree (or rising Senior) from an accredited college or university ; a p aralegal certification from an ABA approved program ; or , in the alternative, at least two years of experience .
Applicants must meet all performance and attendance standards and have completed all probationary periods. (Internal requirement only)

Ideal candidates will present the following profile:
Demonstrated experience in performing hearing or trial prep work.
Thorough knowledge of legal documents and their function.
Demonstrated ability to complete assignments with minimal supervision, handling conflicting priorities, and work under pressure while meeting tight deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
Knowledge of case/matter management system, document management system, PC applications (Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Lexis-Nexis/Westlaw.
