LSI seeks a dedicated and energetic individual to work part-time as a Farm Associate within the refugee farming Global Greens program in Des Moines.

This is a seasonal position and the length of position assignment may depend on the changing needs of the program.

What You"ll Do

Provide direct services to New American farmers in the Global Greens program and assist with in-field maintenance, field work, and landscaping. Associate will work along side Land and Production Supervisor, Farm Management Specialist, and Community Garden Specialist to develop and maintain garden spaces, assist with on-site trainings, resource distribution, and greenhouse production. Farm Associate may need to answer specific questions in a multi-cultural setting about growing techniques, pest and weed management, general produce/agriculture production, and machinery. Seasonal work, length of position assignment may depend on the changing needs of the program.

What You"ll Need

Qualified applicants will possess a high school diploma or GED and one year of related work experience. Must be able to maintain and operate basic farm equipment and construction tools. Must be able to work independently with limited supervision and demonstrate culturally competent social skills and interactions.

In addition, preferred applicants will have proficiency in horticulture and methods of production, experience in organic and sustainable agriculture, and/or knowledge of local farmer's markets and the local food movement.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work occasional Saturdays.
