Job Description:

The Major Gifts Specialist works closely with philanthropy staff, directors, advisors and volunteers in implementing and managing a comprehensive and effective major gift program ($10,000+). The incumbents primary responsibilities are in the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift prospects and donors of Gundersen Medical Foundation (GMF) and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH). The Major Gifts Specialist will maintain and promote a personal, professional philosophy of community involvement by participating in professional and community activities.



Major Responsibilities:

1. Manages an active portfolio of 150 major gift prospects, strategically advancing prospects through the solicitation cycle and successfully closing major gifts of $10,000 or more to support GMF/GHS.

2. Responsible for developing strategies specifically tailored to individual prospects to move them through the solicitation cycle in an efficient and effective manner.

3. Responsible for meeting established donor/prospect visits, solicitation/proposal and revenue goals.

4. Responsible for keeping accurate and timely records of all constituent interaction in Raisers Edge. Responsible for preparing personalized correspondence in a timely manner.

5. Provides regular reporting of major gift progress including detailed contact reports of prospective donor visits and submits reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer at intervals deemed appropriate by all parties.

6. Responsible for becoming knowledgeable about GMF/GHS and its priorities in order to communicate those priorities effectively to prospects.

7. Responsible for establishing good working relationships with Administration, Directors and Managers of Gundersen Health System (GHS) departments and affiliated physicians.

8. Strive to engage Foundation and Health System leaders and appropriate providers in cultivation and solicitation meetings.

9. Works collaboratively with philanthropy staff to accomplish the goals and objective of the division.

10. Demonstrates performance, which is consistent with the health system’s mission and values, quality improvement standards, and promotes a culture of patient/family centered care.

11. Elements of performance will include teamwork, innovation, respect, cooperation and honesty to create a positive image across the organization.

12. Keeps abreast of developments in healthcare, business and philanthropy, as well as in the field of prospect research.

13. Maintains own professional growth and development.

14. Complies with all Ethical Standards as written by The Association of Fundraising Professionals Code of Ethics.

15. Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.

Education and Learning:

REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree in a related field specialized training in Major Gifts preferred

DESIRED

Bachelor's degree in Business or Marketing Journalism or a related field

Work Experience:

REQUIRED

3-4 years of proven experience in fund development and major gift fundraising

DESIRED

5-7 years of proven experience in fund development and major gift fundraising

License and Certifications:

DESIRED

Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE)
