Requirements
What Will You Do?
Reporting to the Director, Trenton Neighborhood Initiative, the Program Manager is primarily responsible for planning, implementing and reporting on programming and activities related to community development, home ownership and rehabilitation, and healthy homes and housing policy. Viewing the Initiative through a broad lens of comprehensive community planning, they will connect and coordinate programs both internally and externally, and work at both the grassroots and at 10,000 feet to drive change at the individual and systemic levels. The Program Manager will be engaged in various duties and tasks to support the day-to-day operation of multiple programs under the TNI umbrella.
Essential Functions
- Together with the Director, Trenton Neighborhood Initiative, manage housing development, homeownership, home repair and rehabilitation, and economic development projects, including developing project plans, deliverables and milestones; community outreach and engagement; budget tracking; and grant management and reporting.
- Support TNI’s citywide housing and healthy homes policy goals, including convening stakeholders, researching best practices, and developing policy proposals.
- Build relationships with residents, community-based organizations, service providers, government agencies, and others to deliver services to the community that meet identified needs. This may include attending events and community meetings, conducting surveys, or engaging community members in planning processes.
- Manage relationships with contracted community-based organizations and service providers, which may include putting out RFPs, negotiating MOUs, and coordinating related documentation and reports.
- Collect data and, together with THT’s Data Analytics team, analyze data in order to guide program development and evaluation.
- Prepare reports to funders and content for TNI communications, as needed.
Additional Functions
- Support other TNI programs and activities as needed.
- Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director, Trenton Neighborhood Initiative.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- This role does not currently supervise staff, but may supervise temporary staff or interns in the short term, and may supervise full time staff in the medium to long terms as this team continues to grow.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and 2 yrs of experience in creating and successfully implementing broad community development initiatives or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated success in delivering quality programming in one or more of the following areas: affordable housing access, homeownership, home repair, vacant lot activation, lead screening and/or remediation.
- Commitment to a comprehensive approach to community development, with a clear vision for how TNI programs are connected to one another and to other local initiatives, and a determination to make new connections that build on existing strengths and/or fill gaps in capacity.
- Ability to anticipate various outcomes and plan accordingly, adapt quickly, develop and maintain multiple workflows, and complete both high-level and nitty-gritty tasks to support a small team.
- Experience managing partner and vendor relationships, including communications, managing project timelines, and deliverables.
- Experience planning workshops and events, including logistics, coordination with presenters and sponsors, participant recruitment, and registration, etc.
- Commitment to serving low-income communities.
- Willingness to explore both best practices and innovative approaches in community development in order to produce lasting change.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in urban affairs, city planning, or public administration
- Fluent in Spanish
- Experience working in the Trenton area or in similar communities
- Experience conducting community outreach, including door-to-door outreach and participating in community events
- Experience conducting community engagement, including community-driven participatory planning projects
Computer Skills
- Strong computer experience with proficiency in Google Apps and MS Office suites
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and GIS a plus
Further, the Program Manager, Trenton Neighborhood Initiative will be required to attend meetings that may occur in the evenings and/or on weekends both on-site and off-site, in-person or via phone or videoconference.
