Position description

The Energy and Resources Group at the University of California, Berkeley seeks applications for an Assistant, Associate or Full Project Scientist in the Kammen Lab, for the CoolClimate Network (CCN), a research program of the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory at UC Berkeley.

Established in 2007, CoolClimate's mission is to scale up the adoption of low-carbon technologies and practices through smart decision-making tools, transformational programs and enabling policies. CCN develops cutting-edge carbon footprint benchmarking research and combines this with practical application of behavioral sciences to design tailored climate solutions to different populations. CoolClimate tools quickly identify the unique opportunities each individual, business, organization or community holds to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. These tools are incorporated into programs to activate, educate, motivate and empower individuals, organizations and communities to make low-carbon choices. CoolClimate also works with consortium members to design policies and programs that meet local needs and motivate populations to take climate action.

The successful candidate will serve as Program Director of the CoolClimate Network, working under the supervision of Professor Daniel Kammen, Professor of Energy in the Energy and Resources Group, Goldman School of Public Policy, and Department of Nuclear Engineering at UC Berkeley. The incumbent will collaborate with Prof. Kammen and co-investigators to lead CoolClimate Network research, software development, programs and outreach activities.

Duties include writing and managing research grants, conducting quantitative and statistical analysis, designing and developing carbon and resource management software, training and overseeing students, staff and post-doctoral researchers, collaborating with CCN members to align tools with needs of members, developing work plans and timelines to ensure that deliverables are completed on schedule, authoring research papers using CCN data and disseminating findings to academics, donors and policymakers through meetings and presentations.
