Job description

HSP has Healthcare Staffing Professionals has a immediate needs for Medical Records Specialists to assist our client with their transition from a paper health record to a Corrections Specific Electronic Health Record. Medical Records Specialists will manually abstract the information from paper-based health records and transfer the information into the format used by the new EHR. This will include both scanning of information and doing some manual data entry. The position will start immediately upon acceptance and employment clearance and is initially funded through 2/28/2025 with potential renewal. Pay Rate- $28.00/hr working 40 hours a week Benefits: Healthcare (Anthem Blue Cross), Dental and Vision, and Life Insurance Location: Richmond, VA with Travel to Surrounding Areas Minimum Qualifications: Abstracting the health record content requires knowledge of medical terminology as converting organizationally-defined, clinically relevant free-form text from the paper health record into discrete and actionable data is a complex manual process. Knowledge of clinical documentation layout, format/ content for all visit types. Working experience in clinical document management (i.e., sorting, indexing, filing, and retrieving health records) and multi-disciplinary office procedures (e.g., corrections, community and/or mental health, and dental office setting). Additional Considerations: Prefer graduation from CAHIM (Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education) - accredited educational program. Desirable Qualifications: Performance Management: Responds to instructions and feedback of supervisors in a constructive manner in order to improve personal performance. Health Information and Technology Literacy and Skills: Knowledge of the existing and emerging principles and concepts of health records Privacy and Confidentiality of Health Information: Using standard documentation procedures to collect and communicate appropriate health information within legal and regulatory requirements Health Information/Data Technical Security: Applying confidentiality and security measures to store and protect health information. Health Care Delivery: Understanding the practices, procedures, and personnel used to deliver quality patient care
