School Graduation Counselor Following the posting, the team will review applications and invite those they select to an interview.
The team will decide, based on the interviews, who is in the pool. ONLY those who are selected from the pool will be eligible for counselor vacancies.

GENERAL FUNCTION:
Provide services to at-risk students, parents, school staff and the community. School Graduation Counselors address the developmental needs of at-risk students through a comprehensive school counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social development of all students.
MAJOR DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote increased graduation rates and success post-high school, beginning with students in 9th grade
- Connects individual students and their parents with appropriate credit or course recovery options, as appropriate.
- Collaboration with high school teachers and administrators on supports that work for youth identified as at risk of not graduating
- Coordinates individual and group counseling for students identified at risk in a collaborative manner with other School Counselors, as needed
- Observes and understands characteristics of potential dropouts to identify high school students (grades 9-12) with a high probability of not graduating.
- In partnership with the campus registrar, creates strong structures to know which students are at risk of not graduating
- Develops and implements individual intervention strategies to increase the likelihood that students will stay in school and graduate.
- Works with at-risk students to develop a graduation and achievement plan to include the best program to meet academic and post-secondary goals.
- Provides students with appropriate career and post-secondary preparation, programs and /services.
- Conducts an analysis of data for individual students and subgroups (i.e., State Standardized Tests, National Standardized Tests: SAT and ACT, Local Records: Attendance, behavior, teacher conferences, parent conferences, student conferences, grade retention records, and credits earned) to guide plan development.
- Tracks and reports the progress of individuals and subpopulations of students toward graduation.
- Regularly verifies and cleans roster of students in each graduation cohort
- In collaboration with the other School Counselors and the graduation team, support the tracking and uploading of graduation requirements & documentation
- Support post-high school reporting for ODE purposes
- Identifies and links area social agencies with youth at risk of not graduating and their parents/guardians.
- Develops partnerships with community organizations to support the goals of the high school graduation initiative.
- Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters or higher in School Counseling accredited program required
- Ohio School Counseling License required by 8/1/2023
Contact with Others:
Internal: Teachers, administrators, school social workers, psychologists, nurses, career and college information center coordinators and others.
External: Parents, social agencies, community representatives, college representatives, health professionals and post-secondary institutions.
Certification: School Counselor Certification/Licensure from the State of Ohio required

Knowledge and Ability (Special Skills)
Must know current counseling techniques, have effective oral and written communication skills, exhibit positive interpersonal relationship skills; demonstrate sound management, planning and organizational skills and serve as a consultant to the various constituents involved in the school counseling program.
