Job Summary

We are seeking an HVAC Specialist for our Facilities department at our Mattawan, MI facility.

An HVAC Specialist is responsible for: performing a variety of master-level mechanical and pressure/temperature equipment repairs and maintenance that require close interface with other trade/craft functions; performing other semi-skilled tasks in the general maintenance of the physical plant; and providing work direction and mentorship to others performing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) projects. The individual in this role is a highly-skilled specialist who works on complex assignments and takes a high degree of initiative to resolve issues and recommend new procedures.

Essential Functions
•    Monitor and maintain HVAC systems including high/low temperature, water and electricity. Isolate and identify malfunctioning equipment for repair, adjustment, and replacement. 
•    Interpret instructions and guidelines for maintaining appropriate humidly and temperature requirements and minimum air changes and direction flow as required, including for animal rooms. 
•    Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts to ensure correct functioning of systems. Perform adjustments, repairs and replacement of parts and equipment following written specifications such as blueprints, drawings and schematics. May calibrate equipment.
•    Assist management in environmental system design and utility cost-reduction programs. Perform and direct maintenance and construction of physical plant environmental systems. 
•    Dismantle equipment/fixtures and plan systematic replacement or repair of accessories and parts and return equipment to operation.
•    Oversee HVAC-related tasks being performed by other department personnel. Inspect completed work for quality, safety, and proper operation.
•    Coordinate maintenance work with other departments and divisions; maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work.
•    Periodically perform preventative maintenance programs as required.
•    Perform other semi-skilled tasks as assigned to assist in the general maintenance of the physical plant.
•    Respond to emergencies as needed. Provide 24-hour on-call maintenance coverage, as scheduled in rotation.
•    May perform waste vacuum maintenance.
•    Perform all other related duties as assigned, such as team leadership, mentoring, and training.

The pay range for this position is $35-$38 per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

Job Qualifications

Qualifications include but are not limited to:
•    HS/GED/Bachelor's degree with 6 or more years of relevant experience; contract research organization experience preferred. Certification or valid HVAC license (where required by state) preferred.
•    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
•    Demonstrated ability to problem solve, make decisions, provide leadership in absence of supervision, prioritize workload/projects, and work effectively in a team-based environment. 
•    Demonstrated knowledge of environmental system maintenance and design.
•    Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization.
•    Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
•    Computer skills, commensurate with Essential Functions, including the ability to learn a validated system.
•    Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts, sometimes on short notice.
•    Ability to work under specific time constraints.
