The Position

This opening is for an Economist 2 (Underfill for Economist 3) within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Division of Health Care Financing and Policy (DHCFP) Office of Analytics, located in Carson City NV. This position is responsible for the analysis of healthcare data; including medical and pharmacy claims as well as other provider financial and statistical data; preparing reports on utilization and financial reports; calculating and preparing analyses showing fiscal impact of rate changes or other proposals; presenting at various forums as applicable. This position may assist in completing and preparing analyses related to department-wide caseload data, including preparing monthly and quarterly caseload forecasts for DHHS programs. This position maintains data quality and control, and completes all requests related to claims data from internal and external partners within specified timeframes in a fast-paced working environment under minimal supervision. This position requires the demonstrated use of statistical methods and programs utilizing SAS, STATA or similar analytic software. This position may require travel both in and out of state up to 25%.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Qualifications

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in economics, labor economics, econometrics, statistics or a related field and two years of professional experience in conducting statistical/economic data collection, analysis and research involving the application of advanced statistical, mathematical and economic principles and research modeling; OR one year of experience as an Economist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
