Job description

Purpose:
To function as liaison to physicians, community agencies, and other referral sources and represent UPMC in the community.

Responsibilities:

• Establishes, maintains and enhances physician and regional facility relations. Measures satisfaction with the referral network, specialty services and identifies and executes necessary follow-up activity. Functions as a liaison between inpatient and outpatient services. Coordinates communication between attending and referring physicians. Responds to questions and concerns raised by the physician community. Coordinates orientation to UPMC services and products for new physicians and coordinates introductions/visits to current medical staff. Communicates regularly with appropriate management staff regarding activities. Coordinates educational sessions for physician offices regarding various service lines and patient services available through UPMC. Assists the patient and physicians in understanding UPMC products and services.Monitors changes in physician referral patterns and researches findings in order to initiate necessary corrections. Works with Marketing, Planning, physicians and management staff to develop marketing strategies and materials. Researches potential new market opportunities and physician practice acquisitions. Acts as a resource person for network hospitals and the community. Assists with and/or plans seminars, conferences, health fairs, community events and education programs for physicians, their office staff and other health care providers both regionally and internally. Maintains physician visit documentation and monthly targeted physician and activity statistics. Demonstrates commitment to Service Excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated and thorough.
• Supports New Physician orientation through introduction to network and to UPMC. Schedules regular follow up meetings with physicians after initial hire to ensure they are oriented to all UPMC services and referral process is working smoothly.Establishes relationships and communication with all nursing homes in the county to provide collaboration between acute care facility and long-term care facilities. Function as a liaison between hospital and skilled nursing facilities. Meets regularly with the Case management team. Organizes CME events and physician networking events. Represents UPMC at varying medical conference and community health fairs.
