Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) oversees, develops, supports, and grows UNC-Chapel Hill’s $1 billion research enterprise. The offices reporting to the OVCR set strategic priorities for research, manage proposals and awards, provide research infrastructure, identify funding opportunities, develop research teams and partnerships, oversee regulatory compliance, and communicate the impact and value of the University’s research enterprise. The OVCR enables research endeavors for faculty, students, and scholars; encourages interdisciplinary research collaboration across campus; and fosters expansion and diversification of the University’s sponsored research portfolio by collaborating with foundations, federal agencies, corporations, and the state and federal governments. The Vice Chancellor for Research also oversees multiple pan-University, multidisciplinary research centers and institutes.

Position Summary:

The Community Engagement Research Navigator is a new position within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. This position will work collaboratively across the university’s research enterprise to assist with the development of a community engagement in research (CEnR) infrastructure to foster equitable and accessible research via education, community partnerships, capacity-building, and outreach.

In collaboration with the Director of Workforce Strategy and Community Partnerships, this position will; 1) provide community-based research expertise and assistance with developing institutional specific requirements for CEnR related processes; 2) help build and monitor the flow of assigned research projects by tracking project start-up times and needs, critical path deliverables, and key milestone deadlines; 3) proactively identify problems and determine their potential impacts on project implementation, as well as potential solutions; and 4) provide comprehensive and transparent reporting to research leadership, internal research community members, and other key stakeholders CEnR related processes and overall infrastructure building progress.

This position will work collaboratively with a variety of entities, administrative individuals, study teams, and community partners to implement these strategies, and will serve to bridge the gap between research operations, CEnR researcher community, and our community partners. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Strong understanding and a passion for strengthening and improving academic-community research partnerships; understands community engagement in research; has strong community partnerships; has the ability to effectively communicate and work within a R1 research institution; ability to evaluate data, effectively problem solve, and offer recommendations; and has strong organizational and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Master’s Degree preferred.
