Job Summary

Note: This is a contract position for a period of three years at 100%

The Sports Dietitian will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of sports medicine orthopaedic surgeons and physicians, athletic trainers, and physical therapists to provide specialized nutrition counseling, to enhance the performance of competitive and recreational athletes. The Sports Dietitian will also perform nutrition assessment for obese, pre-operative outpatients, and evaluate patient response and post-surgical recovery to weight loss interventions.


Primary responsibilities include developing and documenting client nutrition plans via translating the latest scientific evidence into practical sports nutrition recommendations, charting and tracking outcomes of nutrition interventions, support and coordination of outreach efforts, coordinating nutrition research pilot studies, identifying and targeting main client groups and audiences for nutrition services. The RD maintains professional competence and continuing education per regulatory requirements. This is a contract position for a period of three years at 100%.

Department Description

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at UCSF provides expert treatment for all aspects of musculoskeletal injuries including inpatient and outpatient surgical care, rehabilitation, and orthotics and prosthetics. This position will be split primarily between the Orthopaedic Oncology and Orthotics and Prosthetics Sections of the Departments. Our physicians have specific training and experience in a broad range of othopaedic specialties such as sports medicine, trauma, joint replacement, pediatrics, oncology, spine, shoulder and elbow, foot and ankle, and hand. The Department is internationally recognized for its work in patient care, education, and research. Our basic and translational research programs focus on cartilage and disc regeneration, fracture healing, molecular and stem cell biology, bioengineering, and musculoskeletal development.
