Job description
Hands-On Science Camp is a dynamic 7-week summer program. Classes are offered to youth aged prek-8 th grade in all major sciences. The Summer Camp Intern is responsible for assisting in the delivery of high quality, interactive science education programs for camp groups at the California Science Center. These are seasonal full-time or part-time summer positions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1 to 2 years’ experience teaching or working with the public in a classroom, informal educational/public setting preferred.
- High school graduate
- College courses in science and/ or education preferred.
- Effective interpersonal skills with diverse audiences.
- Excellent customer service skills and team player.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish, Korean, or Chinese desired.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that may includes weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Physical ability to lift, move, and organize supplies that may weigh up to 25 lbs.
- Physical ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of educational summer camp programs to groups of preschool, elementary and secondary aged children.
- Assist in the development of hands-on science lessons for camp programs.
- Organize and prepare materials for use in camp programs.
- Purchase and sort consumable and non-consumable supplies for camp programs.
- Assist in organizing and supervising on and off site program field trips.
- Assist the Extended Day Lead with organizing and supervising extended day programs.
- Responsible for maintaining classroom space and supplies.
- Assist in daily administrative and operational tasks.
- Track camp attendance and surveys.
- Perform other duties as required.
COMPENSATION
Salary Rage: $18.00 - $19.00 / Hour
