Responsibilities

Duties: Analyze information and data to perform routine design tasks related to bridge maintenance and design.  Assist others in analyzing information and data to perform complex design tasks related to bridge maintenance and design. Assist in preparation of construction documents. Participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.  Receive instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.  Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineer.  Research code requirements.  Prepare administrative reports required for projects and clients.  Keep Senior Project Manager and supervisor informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope of additional services.  Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.  Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals. No hire / fire authority.

 

 


Qualifications

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited university plus a minimum of three years of experience.  Experience required with performing routine inspection of bridges and performing load ratings. Must have experience with design/analysis and modeling software including AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, GeoPak, MicroStation, LEAP Bridge, and AASHTOware BrR.  Must have experience performing on-site bridge inspection.  Experience required working with state departments of transportation systems and guidelines, railroads, and federally funded projects.  Must have experience with design guidelines/codes including American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) guidelines/codes; American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) guidelines/codes; American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) guidelines/codes; and American Concrete Institute (ACI) Code.  Requires ability to travel regionally to Kansas City, Missouri and various bridge sites to perform site inspection up to 10% of the time.  Telecommuting is permissible within a reasonable commuting distance from the Wichita, Kansas TranSystems office.
