This position is open to Alaska Residents Only.

The mission of the Division of the Alaska Pioneer Homes is: "Providing elder Alaskans a home and community, celebrating life through its final breath."


This position is a member of an outstanding nursing and direct care staff at the Juneau Pioneer Home and plays a vital role in providing care and support in a safe environment for up to forty-nine (49) elders.

What you will be doing: Provide high quality care to assisted living home residents in a warm, supportive, and caring manner. This position provides clinical and medication administration to residents and clinical support to the care teams. Focus will be on quality resident care, the growth, development, and empowerment of health care teams, and the promotion of assisted living philosophy and statutes.

The working environment you can expect: This job is located at the Juneau Pioneer Home, an assisted living home at 4675 Glacier Hwy in Juneau, Alaska. The home is nestled near Twin Lakes with breathtaking views of nearby mountains, the Gastineau Channel, and wildlife such as brown bears, eagles, ravens, blue herons, kingfishers, porcupines, deer, and squirrels.

Who we are looking for: Position-specific knowledge, skills and abilities that are desired or contribute to the success in this position:
  1. Skills in the principles and practices of nursing, behavior, and needs of patients.
  2. Ability to understand nurse staffing requirements to achieve organization goals, including staff types, numbers, training needs and ability to identify and correct knowledge gaps with excellence.
  3. Skills in complex nursing techniques; observation and evaluation of reactions and changes in the physical, behavioral, and mental condition of patients.
  4. Ability to direct, counsel, lead, train and work with nursing and support staff to develop or modify nursing care plans for residents; analyze reports to affect personnel scheduling and duty assignments and meet changing conditions.
  5. Ability to identify and solve administrative problems; organize the work of the unit and maintain records.

Minimum Qualifications

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.

AND

Two years of professional experience as a Registered Nurse, one of which must have been at the full performance/journey level. Examples of this latter experience include but are not exclusively limited to prior service as a Nurse II, Corrections Nurse II, or Psychiatric Nurse II with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.

Substitution:

Combinations of prior training and experience in other specializations of nursing care (e.g., Psychiatric, Corrections, Public Health, Critical Care, Surgical) will be evaluated for comparability on a case-by-case basis.

Special Note:

Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty.

Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

Additional Required Information

At time of interview applicant must provide:
  1. Two (2) professional references (including work/supervisor-related) and three (3) character references (personal) with current contact information.
If selected and prior to hire, applicant will be asked to:
  1. Submit to fingerprinting and criminal background check screening.
  2. Provide current evidence to be free from active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) with test results dated within the last 12 months prior to start date.
  3. Provide a copy of current CPR and First Aid certificate(s), if available.
  4. Provide current evidence of negative results to COVID-19 testing performed within 2 weeks prior to start date. See IMPORTANT NOTE below.

IMPORTANT NOTE : As part of the employment requirement at this unprecedented time COVID-19 testing with negative results will be required prior to appointment.
