Job description

The Water Resource Recovery Operations & Services Department is seeking an Engineering Technician 3 (Electrical). This position performs journey-level through advanced engineering tasks associated with the locations, drafting, design, review, permitting, construction, and inspection of engineering projects related to wastewater treatment plants and pump stations electrical and instrumentation systems.

Essential Functions:

Drafts moderate to complex drawings for the design and construction of electrical power distribution, including one-line, riser diagram, power plan views, lighting, fire alarm, control wiring diagrams, loop drawings, homerun raceway block diagrams, Process and Instrument Diagram (P&ID) drawings, communication network systems, duct banks, and associated electrical and instrumentation details using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software for wastewater treatment facilities and pumping stations.

Gathers data and performs engineering design calculations for electrical projects including sizing motor circuit protection, control breakers, fusing, wiring, overloads, conductors, and conduits based on equipment loads. Performs estimation of construction quantities; makes cost analyses and estimates for projects.

Creates Bills of Material (BOM) and assists with the selection of electrical and instrumentation components per the Water Resource Recovery Operations and Services Department standards.

Prepares and modifies electrical control panel drawings, layouts, and schematics.

Designs control cabinet layouts that include: Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems, power supplies, groundings, analog and discrete control wirings, venting, and cooling.

Performs field work including inspection of projects installed electrical, power, and instrumentation for quality control and conformance to the Water Resource Recovery Operations and Services Department standards.

Consolidates and updates as built and record drawings.

Performs design changes, general arrangement drawing production, redlining, plotting, and drafting using AutoCAD 2D and 3D model development software.

Participates in the coordination of meetings and collaborates with other departments. Works closely with engineers, senior designers, operations, and maintenance staff on assigned projects.

Coordinates submittals for permitting agencies for review, approval, and other milestones.

Performs thorough quality control (QA/QC) of models and sheet files for standards compliance, discipline coordination, and to ensure comments have been addressed as required.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledges, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required KSAs for Engineering Technician 3 would be:


Increasingly responsible experience which includes design, technical review or construction inspection of sanitary, storm sewer, or treatment plant facilities.


College-level coursework in electrical, civil, sanitary, or environmental engineering, materials science, construction technology or a related field, with specialized training in drafting or design.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENT:

Upon selection, candidate must possess and maintain a valid State issued drivers license.
