Job description
The Membership Coordinator is a member of The Cardinal Newman Society's operations team and development team, working under the direct supervision of the Vice President for Finance and Operations. This is a full-time salaried position working from The Cardinal Newman Society's office in western Prince William County, Virginia.
The Cardinal Newman Society promotes and defends faithful Catholic education. As a Catholic organization recognized by the Church, The Cardinal Newman Society is bound to conform to Catholic teaching and practices in all its policies and activities. The development and operations teams have vital roles in the mission of The Cardinal Newman Society: identifying, cultivating, and soliciting Catholics to support the renewal of faithful Catholic education by prayer and donations and providing operations support to all members of the Society's staff and for all activities of the Society. Both teams strive to increase faithful Catholic education and thereby assist the Church's evangelization. In their communications and other tasks, they promote fidelity to the mission of Catholic education and to the Catholic faith, including teaching and defending the Church's doctrine on the human person, the family, morality, faith development, and education. They also teach the value of faithful Catholic education and the work of The Cardinal Newman Society. They conduct all activities in accord with Catholic moral and social principles, ensuring and modeling faithful Catholic financial, administrative, personnel, legal, ethical, and religious policies and procedures.
The Membership Coordinator supports and helps implement the Society's member communications and fundraising operations.
Specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Implement and track fundraising appeals and other communications to members, lapsed members, and prospective new members by direct mail, email, web, social media, and phone, according to the Society's annual development and digital marketing plans.
- Prepare, submit, and track foundation grant proposals and reports in collaboration with program staff, according to the Society's annual development plan.
- Pick up or arrange pickup of mail and print orders.
- Process incoming donations and make bank deposits, according to the Society's internal control procedures.
- Acknowledge donor gifts by phone, email, and mail, according to the Society's gift acknowledgment procedures.
- Maintain records by filing documents, preparing operational guides, tracking mail-related inventory, and recording member information and preferences in member and email databases, while protecting members' private information and adhering to the Society's policies on information, security, confidentiality, and proprietary data.
- Respond to member communications and communicate CNS activities with mid-level donors.
- Help identify, research, and qualify major and mid-level gift prospects.

- Pray for Catholic education and the work of The Cardinal Newman Society and participate in staff prayer.
- Advocate faithful Catholic education and fidelity to Catholic teaching.

- Ability to start and resume work on projects amid changing priorities, with capacity to meet deadlines.
- High-level proficiency with Microsoft 365 office programs and Windows-based computers, and at least general familiarity with cloud-based database programs.
- Ability to write fundraising emails, letters, social media to members and understanding concepts and standards for more effective online and mail appeals is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Excellent donor relations and management skills.
- Experience with MailChimp, Constant Contact, or other email platforms is a plus.
- A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
