Job description
Job Title: Aquatic Biologist
Location: Hybrid (Annapolis, MD)
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 per year
Responsibilities:
- Conduct field assessments and surveys of aquatic ecosystems, including rivers, streams, wetlands, and estuaries.
- Implement rapid bioassessment protocols (RBPs) and other ecological monitoring techniques to evaluate the health and integrity of aquatic habitats.
- Collect and analyze data on aquatic organisms, including fish, benthic macroinvertebrates, and aquatic plants.
- Conduct habitat assessments and identify factors influencing aquatic biodiversity and ecosystem function.
- Use GIS (Geographic Information Systems) to analyze spatial data and map aquatic habitats.
- Prepare technical reports and scientific publications summarizing research findings and recommendations.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and stakeholders to develop conservation and management strategies for aquatic resources.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on aquatic ecology and conservation projects.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field.
- 5-7 years of experience in aquatic biology or a related field.
- Strong understanding of aquatic ecology principles and methodologies.
- Experience with rapid bioassessment protocols, fisheries surveys, and benthic macroinvertebrate sampling.
- Proficiency in data analysis techniques and statistical software.
- Familiarity with GIS software for spatial analysis and mapping.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare technical reports and scientific publications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
