Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

The Department of History at Sam Houston State University invites applications for a position at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor, to begin Fall 2024. This is a one-year appointment.

The department seeks a social or cultural historian of the United States. Chronological specialization open, but a preference will be given to candidates whose subfield or methodological approach extends the strengths of the department. The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester, to include both halves of the United States history survey, as well as upper-division and graduate courses in the candidate's area(s) of specialization. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to engaging Sam Houston State University's undergraduate and graduate students, as well as a promising research agenda. Online teaching experience is a plus.

If a candidate has not completed the doctorate, one letter must be from the candidate's advisor, addressing the state of the dissertation.
