Description:
This is a professional, full-time, or PRN position responsible for delivering healthcare to inmates. This role involves some risk to personal safety and potential exposure to communicable diseases.
Essential Functions:
The incumbent will perform basic and intermediate medical evaluations, physical examinations, and assessments of the inmate population. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing daily nursing, first aid, and emergency medical care in accordance with Physician-approved protocols.
- Conducting daily nurse sick call.
- Administering medications, including injections, as per the Medical Director's orders.
- Controlling, issuing, and monitoring medication use following the Code of Virginia.
- Performing venipuncture and collecting other laboratory specimens.
- Operating various medical equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- General and intermediate knowledge of medical practices, procedures, and techniques associated with standard physician examinations.
- Intermediate knowledge of medical diagnostic processes.
- Ability to administer medications, perform treatments, first aid, and emergency procedures.
- Ability to follow technical oral and written instructions precisely.
- Ability to maintain accurate, concise, and clear records and reports.
- Ability to strictly adhere to security guidelines and the Code of Ethics.
Experience, Education, and Availability:
- One (1) year of LPN experience in a clinic environment preferred.
- Must possess a valid Driver's License.
- Must be available for on-duty call during weekends, holidays, and other non-duty times.
- Must have graduated successfully from an accredited School of Nursing and have or be awaiting Virginia licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN).
Physical Demands:
The role requires effective communication both verbally and in writing, along with various physical activities such as walking, talking, stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, sitting, and gripping. On occasion, incumbents may need to move and lift up to 30 lbs
