Traveling Construction Superintendent
Lakeside HR Group has been engaged to recruit for a Traveling Construction Superintendent for a National Contractor specializing in Tenant Improvement and Ground Up Retail Construction. They are licensed in all 50 states including the Virgin Islands and are looking for a Superintendent to assist their team with National Projects.
The superintendent acts as an on-site project manager for our construction projects. The superintendent will ensure that projects are completed to quality standards, on time, and within budget. They will coordinate with subcontractors and manage the job site schedule to provide a quality store to each one of our clients.
Essential Functions
Specific duties include, but may not be limited to:
- Coordinates and manages on-site construction activities from pre-start-up to completion; sets up and closes out construction site
- Studies specifications and drawings to plan work-flows for construction on the schedule as of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase of construction
- Assists in the development of project schedule; manages the schedule of activities and tasks on the construction site; coordinates various phases of construction to manage deadlines
- Ensures proper permits are secured
- Initiates and maintains relationship with Landlord from pre-construction meeting through project close-out and punch list
- Ensure compliance with landlord rules and regulations by all personnel on the site during construction.
- Coordinates respective trade activity with landlord when necessary, i.e. sprinkler work
- Schedules and coordinates all trades and vendors according to project schedule
- Solicits prices from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers for review and approval by Project Managers; may prepare estimates in areas of self-performed work
- Directs trade activities based on concept and interpretation of project drawings
- Coordinates and manages, subcontractors, engineering, and others necessary parties at start of project tore views project from start through completion validating schedule commitments.
- Determines materials, equipment and tools needed; orders tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules
- Identify conflicts in construction progress and communicate them to project team for resolution
- Assists Project Manager in locating and evaluating potential subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
- Prepares various reports, i.e., weekly progress reports, attendance reports, materials used and costs, safety reports, expense reports; adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports
- Reviews drawings, (i.e., shop, architectural, structural, etc.) that are issued to the field;coordinates and maintains a current set of drawings at all times
- Creates as-built record set drawings and specifications as required by respective clients
- Leads safety meetings; serves as on-site Safety Officer if one is not specifically assigned to the project
- Manages inspection processes with local building authorities and Authorities Having Jurisdiction over the project
- Liaises with any OSHA inspectors
- Establishes and maintains high safety and quality standards in accordance with Company and industry standards
- Ensures customer satisfaction with the project
- Takes direction and completes any other duties as assigned by the project manager, VP of construction of VP of field operations.

- Daily meal Per-Diem (while on a project away from home)
- Mileage reimbursement (while on a project away from home and at least 60 miles one way)
- Travel home every 2 weekends as long as job schedule allows.
Work Environment
- Indoor environment in malls or strip malls
- Outside weather conditions possible for outdoor jobsite
- Wet and/or humid conditions
- Occasional exposure to high places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and/or heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration
- Exposure to moderate to loud noise level
Qualifications/Skills - Builds partnerships and works collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives, establish credibility and influences others.
- Ability to positively and effectively lead employees and subcontractors to successfully accomplish a project.
- Efficient use of Microsoft Office products and other computer-based data management systems.
- Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents such as blueprints, safety manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Competent to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and see projects through to completion.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence within requirements and deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, inspectors, subcontractors, landlords, clients and all other necessary parties.
- Possess highly developed problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills.

- Lift up to 50lbs
- Must be able to navigate through jobsite efficiently.
- Must be able to safely use a ladder
Experience, Education and other Requirements - 5+ years construction superintendent experience
- Valid driver’s license with ability to use own vehicle to drive to the job site and evidence of insurability.
- OSHA 30 certification highly preferred
- Construction Management or related degree a plus
