Job description

This is a 12- month, 100%, Professional and Administrative Position. 

Job Duties: 

75% Academic Advising

The primary job responsibility is to provide proactive academic advising for students. As an educator, employ effective pedagogy to deliver the CEHSP advising curriculum toward achievement of UMDâ™s established student learning outcomes. Guide students to the knowledge, skills, resources, and experiences that will help them succeed in clarifying and attaining their educational goals. Facilitate learning & personal development by engaging students in critical, creative, and reflective thinking. 
-Provide advisement and academic services for current students
-Serve as a liaison with assigned departments/majors
-Collaborate on transfer guides and assistance for prospective students
-Present Orientation, Advising & Registration sessions

20% Program Operation, Development, & Student Engagement

Along with the Advising & Academic Services team assist with program operations & development such as:
-student success initiatives
-program evaluation & assessment
-campus visit staffing
-new student registration
-advising curriculum & pedagogy
-CEHSP policies & procedures
-maintain and update student records 
-Special projects as assigned in support of Advising & Academic Services and CEHSP

5% Professional Development and Service
-Committee Member, UMD Academic Advising Committee
-Serve on Collegiate and Campus-Wide committees as assigned/elected
-Participate in professional development opportunities
-Stay current in the field of college student learning & development

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelorâ™s degree plus four years of college-level advising or other student affairs experience, OR Master's degree plus two years of college-level advising or other student affairs experience
• Commitment to working effectively with culturally diverse students, colleagues, and communities

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, psychology, education, or other related field from a regionally accredited institution 
• Demonstrated success working effectively with culturally diverse students, colleagues, and communities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
• Gallup Certified Strengths Coach
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently 
• Experience working with first-year college students 
• Experience working with faculty to support student success
• Knowledge of leading theories of academic advising and college student learning & development 
• Familiarity with degree audit systems, course catalogs, and Transferology
• Experience creating, developing, and implementing student success and engagement initiatives
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with colleagues across campus
