Position Overview:
The Account Receivable Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire process of collecting payments owed by clients to the company. This role involves managing and supervising the accounts receivable team, ensuring accurate billing and coding, maintaining customer relations, and implementing policies to reduce the amount of outstanding debt. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical billing and coding, excellent leadership skills, and a keen eye for detail to ensure the financial health of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Supervision: Lead, manage, and supervise the accounts receivable team. Provide training, set performance standards, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Billing and Collections: Oversee the billing process, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Develop strategies and policies for effective debt collection and manage the collection process.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze accounts receivable reports, and provide insights on cash flow, aging reports, and bad debt levels. Make recommendations to improve financial health.
- Compliance and Regulations: Ensure compliance with healthcare industry standards and regulations, including HIPAA. Stay updated with changes in billing practices and regulations.
- Customer Service: Manage relationships with clients, resolving any billing disputes, and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to streamline billing and collections processes, increase efficiency, and reduce errors.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as medical coding, finance, and customer service, to ensure a cohesive operation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Medical Billing and Coding : Proficiency in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, understanding of medical terminology, and familiarity with the billing process in healthcare.
- Understanding of Healthcare Insurance : Comprehensive knowledge of various insurance plans (e.g., HMOs, PPOs, Medicare, Medicaid), payer requirements, and the appeals process for denied claims.
- Financial Management Skills : Ability to manage and oversee the accounts receivable ledger, perform aging analysis, manage cash flow related to billing, and prepare financial reports.
- Leadership and Team Management : Experience in leading a team, managing work distribution, setting goals, and providing training and support to staff members.
- Analytical Skills : Ability to analyze billing and collection data, identify trends, and implement strategies to improve processes and reduce outstanding accounts receivable.
- Communication Skills : Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for dealing with patients, insurance companies, and internal staff. Ability to explain billing processes and insurance details clearly is crucial.
- Problem-Solving Skills : Ability to quickly identify issues and discrepancies in billing and payments and implement effective solutions.
- Attention to Detail : Precision is crucial in ensuring that billing and coding are accurately executed to minimize errors and denied claims.
- Regulatory Compliance : Understanding of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, and ensuring that billing practices comply with federal and state laws.
- Technology Proficiency : Familiarity with medical billing software, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office). Ability to adapt to new technologies that the company might adopt is also important.
- Customer Service Skills : Ability to handle patient inquiries regarding bills and insurance in a professional and empathetic manner.
