Vicor Product Development Engineering is hiring a motivated individual to define, develop, validate and bring to production the latest in silicon power controllers and other ICs for cutting edge power conversion products. The Silicon Design Engineer is directly responsible for the definition of Vicor IC Controllers as well as architecting the systems in which the controller is used. This also includes the creation of simulation models, hardware/firmware definition, reference designs, test boards, datasheets, and expert tools. The Sn Systems Engineer is also a key contributor to the qualification of new products and systems. Finally there are opportunities to collaborate directly with key innovators in the company to define future ground breaking power conversion solutions.
Specific responsibilities include:
Working independently and with other members of the team on various projects involving powertrain and system controllers.
Circuit-level and system-level time-domain and frequency-domain simulation of different power converter topologies, analog circuits, and digital controllers.
Definition of hardware and firmware requirements for system control strategies used in Vicor products.
Designing, prototyping, and testing evaluation boards for verifying powertrain controller ICs and firmware.
Support design teams in implementing test and trim routines used to calibrate ICs.
System level verification of new products as part of New Product Introduction (NPI) programs.
Assist design engineering and product development engineering groups in troubleshooting products in development.
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, MSEE a plus
Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
Experience designing AC-DC, DC-DC power supplies, or designing with AC-DC or DC-DC power components
IC level experience with AC/DC and DC/DC powertrain controllers strongly desired
Excellent understanding of analog design and an analytical approach to engineering required.
Familiarity with modeling and design tools such as Simulink MATLAB, Altium, SPICE, Simplis, and Simetrix.
Troubleshooting skills with basic power systems a plus.
Comfortable with lab equipment used in the characterization and design of power supplies and systems (oscilloscopes, DMMs, Network Analyzers, EMI analyzers, loads, sources, etc.)
Good written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting at a technical level in front of customers.
Good understanding of feedback and control systems, Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), digital (e.g. PIC microcontroller) design, and simulation tools would be a plus
Familiarity with office tools (Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.) a plus.
