Job description
Provide prompt and accurate information, reference service and user education to the EVMS community and public.
- Attends rounds at CHKD and assists hospitalists, residents, and students with patient care questions.
- Serves as a consultant to the EVMS IACUC Board and researchers by performing literature research for new protocols, updating research on approved protocols, and attending Full Board meetings.
- Works with the library team to select, books, catalogs, periodicals, magazines, newspapers, audiovisual material, microforms, journal reprints and other materials for collection development.
- Searches literature on-line, compiles accession lists, and annotates or abstracts materials.
- Answers reference questions and provides literature searches for patient care or research from students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Provides library orientations for faculty, fellows, and residents.
- Conducts health literacy training for the Hampton Roads community.
- Develops library videos in support of outreach and teaching.
- Assists with creating and maintaining library research guides.
- Monitors the Research Librarians ([email protected]) email account and responds to requests forwarded to the CMLs from the Library ([email protected]) email on set days.
- Maintains and submits monthly billing and search logs.
- Works daily shifts at the Information Desk and serves on the on-call library rotation.
- Provides user education and orientation.
- Participates in the Clinical Medical Librarian (CML) program.
- Trains other workers engaged in using library resources.
- Works with integrated library system and document delivery system.
- Performs routine clerical functions of filing, photocopying, and mailing of reference and research materials.
- Assists with other duties as needed or as assigned by Reference Services Coordinator.
Master’s degree in Library Sciences from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited library school . Minimum of two (2) years library experience.
Must have competencies in library computing applications including, but not limited to, online bibliographic searching, web design and use of Internet-based resources. Preferred: coursework in health sciences librarianship or other health sciences training; experience in the health sciences or academic setting; Medical Library Association (MLA) certification.
