This posting is for the 2024-25 Teacher Job Fair.
Elementary - February 20, 2024: 5-8p.m. - Tucker High School
Secondary - March 20, 2024: 5-8p.m. - Highland Springs High School

The School Librarian serves three interrelated roles within the school: teacher, instructional partner, and program administrator. While fulfilling these roles, the school librarian empowers students to think, create, share, and grow as they harness curiosity, model responsibility, inspire exploration, promote creativity, and deepen understanding. The school librarian is responsive to the needs of all learners and establishes a stimulating, welcoming environment for students and faculty, promotes lifelong reading and intellectual freedom, and develops a balanced, diverse collection. The school librarian transforms learning by designing life-ready learning experiences and programming which can be student owned, authentic and connected, community supported, and available anytime/anywhere.

Essential Duties

Teacher:
Activates a broad-based knowledge of the curriculum and Virginia Standards of Learning to integrate the National School Library Standards with content through both small group and whole class instruction
Plans by reviewing pacing charts and student growth data, and utilizes the HCPS Library Standard Alignment which integrates information literacy skills with curricula appropriate for content and grade level
Takes a leadership role in modeling and teaching the skills necessary to access, evaluate, and use resources ethically, effectively, and responsibly
Promotes an appreciation of information literacy and recreational reading for lifelong learning and enjoyment
Delivers information through a variety of creative activities and instructional practices that involve a personalized learning experience
Empowers students as creators
Teaches and promotes the privacy of student data through his or her instruction and role as an educational leader

Instructional Partner :
Creates partnerships and leads beyond the library by attending grade level/department meetings, identifying and developing resources to support curriculum, and creating lessons/activities that utilize the HCPS Library Standard Alignment which integrates information literacy skills with curricula appropriate for content and grade level
Collaborates and co-plans with encore teachers to create integrated, authentic learning experiences
Applies and models use of new Technology, design thinking, and guided inquiry, and promotes effective, responsible use of resources by students and staff
Provides leadership to staff by serving on the leadership team, facilitating personalized professional learning, and coordinating resources and available facilities and services to support the instructional program, and participating in other committees such as Technology and curriculum committees

Program Administrator:
Creates and maintains equitable access to an inviting, safe environment that fosters intellectual inquiry
Provides flexible extended learning spaces that promote inquiry, creativity, collaboration, and community
Ensures equitable digital access, programming, and services in support of the school district's strategic vision
Inspires and supports the reading lives of both students and teachers
Develops and maintains an up-to-date, culturally diverse collection of print and non-print resources that supports the curriculum and reflects students' interests
Cultivates partnerships within the school and local community (including families and caregivers, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, public and higher education libraries, businesses) to promote engagement and a community of readers
Uses available statistics to assess the library collection and program in order to make related financial and program development decisions
Actively seeks out and writes grants to support instruction and resources for learners
Curates digital resources, coordinates and manages available resources
Keeps abreast of current library and information trends through professional organizations, social networking, literature, and networking with colleagues in other libraries
Serves as an advocate for the library program and its services in the school and community

Minimum Qualifications

Current teaching certification with endorsement in Library Media. Masters in Library Science or equivalent degree preferred.

Position is a 220- day role.
Minimum *** annual starting salary: $57,476 Bachelors, $60,235 Masters, $ 63,126 Doctoral
The annual salary stated in this posting is based on the 2023-2024 adopted financial plan. The annual salary, for the 2024-2025 school year, will be determined once the 2024-2025 school year financial plan is approved and adopted in the Spring of 2024
