Job description
Job Title: Senior Accountant
Job Summary: Under limited supervision, the Senior Accountant utilizes intermediate skills obtained through experience and training to provide timely, efficient, and high-quality accounting and financial services
This role involves reviewing the work of Accounts Payable (AP) team members, completing general ledger entries and work papers, and supporting budgets and financial reporting
The Senior Accountant identifies and recommends solutions to moderately complex problems and maintains regular and extensive contact with internal team members and other business units to meet objectives
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Review and reconcile accounting transactions for proper classification in accordance with GAAP, applicable federal regulations, and performance standards.
- Perform monthly close processes, ensuring timely resolution of outstanding issues.
- Perform monthly bank and investment reconciliations as needed.
- Create and post accrual journal entries for revenue and expense accounts.
- Create and post adjusting journal entries as needed.
- Prepare financial statements and reports, including variance analyses comparing to prior periods and budget.
- Prepare supporting schedules for quarterly reviews and annual audits, including 941 payroll reconciliations.
- Support Accounts Payable as needed.
- Assist with maintaining and verifying program inventory.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with other departments.
- Address issues or questions from other departments related to monthly financial operating results and provide analysis of actual vs budget variances.
- Prepare client billings, including grant billings.
- Prepare regulatory reporting and review supporting documentation.
- Prepare and deliver written and oral presentations to management as needed.
- Remain current in non-profit accounting and GAAP accounting rules, regulations, policies, and techniques, as well as all grant provisions and contractual terms for programs.
- Assist in the creation and maintenance of policies and procedures.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: - Fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of work paper preparation and general ledger management.
- Fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of monthly reporting.
- Non-profit accounting, including recording and reporting of federal and non-federal funding.
Skills in: - Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications, including Microsoft Office
Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel preferred.
Ability to: - Maintain the confidentiality of information acquired.
- Partner with other functional areas to accomplish objectives.
- Gather information, identify linkages and trends, and apply findings to assignments.
- Attend to detail while maintaining a big picture orientation.
- Interpret and apply policies and identify and recommend changes as appropriate.
- Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements: - Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
- Minimum 5 years of professional-level accounting experience, non-profit environment preferred.
