Salary and Benefits: Salary £36,555 per annum plus attractive Company Pension (up to 10% company contribution) plus company vehicle + annual bonus, 21 days annual leave plus additional days in lieu of working bank holidays and a wellness day, retail savings scheme and a flexible Health Cash Plan scheme (cash back towards the cost of your routine healthcare including glasses/contact lenses, dental treatment and physiotherapy.

This is a permanent position, 37 hours per week over 4 days. 4 x 9.25-hour days, 0730 to 1715, starting and finishing at home location.  Rota day is rolling so will change each week.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced mechanical fitter to join our clean water maintenance team. With a four-day working week, this role offers a great work-life balance for those who value their time off as much as their work!

As an mechanical fitter, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining critical assets across our clean water asset base, ensuring that the county is continuously supplied with high-quality water.  You will mainly be working on assets between York and Whitby, but may occasionally be required to help out in other areas.

Where you fit in:

As our Mechanical Fitter you will:

• As a Mechanical Fitter, you will undertake maintenance of Yorkshire Waters Mechanical assets across clean water but may occasionally depending on business need, be on waste (Mainly out of hours/Standby)
• Mobile working as part of a Maintenance Team to deliver Planned & Reactive maintenance.  Responding to emergency calls both in and out of hours (on call-out rota).  Driving to deliver improved asset reliability through effective decision making.
• Engineering Maintenance Services has multi-disciplined MEICA teams working across the whole Yorkshire region. Each team has its own geographical area of responsibility but on occasions, members will be expected to work on any Yorkshire water asset. This could be during periods of escalation due to adverse weather or similar.
• As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be required to work unsupervised in remote geographic locations and be accountable for the completion of planned and reactive mechanical tasks within agreed timescales, quality and cost parameters. Candidates will be expected to manage and prioritise your own workload effectively and to build and maintain relationships with operational customers, colleagues, suppliers and contract partners. Adhering to the Health and Safety policy and standards actively identifying hazards, providing mitigation and reporting onto the company hazard database to ensure the cause of the hazard is removed.
• You will be required to occasionally supervise approved Contract Partners, however supported by the team’s technical support engineer in this process.. You will also be required to use a Toughbook to capture all work activity and job status in line with workflow processes. Assist in the development and training of apprentices as well as less experienced members of the team, identifying ways to improve the value and service delivered by the Maintenance Function. Installation & commission new plant and equipment to relevant standards is essential. Diagnosing and repairing faults on systems and plant.
• You will pro-actively identify and report follow on work or areas for enhancement. You will conduct your own risk assessments and create appropriate method statements when required to safely carry out maintenance activities. The successful candidate will have the ability to specify parts and equipment required for procurement as part of day to day role.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

• It is an essential requirement that you hold a recognised Mechanical craft/Technician Apprenticeship and either a City & Guilds/ ONC/ BTEC/ NVQ/ HNC/ HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Eng Tech.
• It is desirable that you hold the following qualifications:
• HNC in a Mechanical discipline
• CompEx 11

You will also benefit from having:

• Maintaining and repairing centrifugal, positive displacement, RAM, progressive cavity, diaphragm, peristaltic pumps
• With gearboxes
• With compressors
• Maintaining equipment in accordance with PSSR
• With blowers
• Working with steam systems
• Working with chemical plant
• With hot work/ fabrication and welding
• Operating lifting equipment and slinging
• Pneumatics and hydraulics

Ideally, you will have previous experience gained within heavy engineering industry, the water sector or within the broader utilities, process or manufacturing industry sectors. Experience within a mechanical based environment or site-based fault diagnosis and repair on complex processes and equipment.

You will be required to visit sites across the Yorkshire Region therefore a full valid driving licence (with no more than three points) is essential requirement of this role.

As part of this role, you will be required to participate in a call out stand-by rota. This will typically be 1 week in 7.

This role has a requirement to carry out work in confined spaces, so completion of a medical and the relevant training course is essential if successful in securing a role.
