The Dartmouth-Hitchcock Pharmacy seeks a Certified Pharmacy Technician to join our Outpatient Hematology/Oncology team. Working in the Dartmouth Cancer Center in Lebanon, NH. The Certified Pharmacy Technician IV works under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist to perform routine and specialized technical and clerical duties for drug distribution to patients, including sterile compounding, stocking Omnicells, and maintaining a clean working environment.
This individual has excellent customer service skills and is able to function independently within their scope of responsibility. The incumbent is able to demonstrate leadership skills on a day to day basis. This job builds on the responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician Certified III.
This is a Full Time 40/hr week benefited position. Day shift schedule.
- Prepares intravenous admixtures or other sterile drug products (including antineoplastic, investigational and hazardous medications) in accordance with USP chapters <797> and <800> under supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
- Prepares prescription and non-prescription medication and/or devices.
- Stocks and replenishes stock locations and automated dispensing machines (ADMs) and/or robots (example: shelves, carousels, Parata).
- Serves as a preceptor and assists with orienting and training of pharmacy department staff.
- Communicates supply issues, problems or discrepancies to the appropriate personnel.
- Assists with workflow management in the pharmacy.
- Performs audits.
- Administers and distribute all new-hire training and departmental specific competencies required by department and accrediting agencies.
- Inpatient and Infusion Only:
- Prepares intravenous admixtures or other sterile drug products (including antineoplastic, investigational and hazardous medications) in accordance with USP chapters <797> and <800> under supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
- Utilizes closed system transfer devices to limit potential exposure of the environment to hazardous medications.
- Follows investigational protocols in the preparation of study medications, maintains records of preparation, stability, and dispenses as required.
- Maintains the hardware and software of the department's multiple computer systems.
- Hematology-Oncology:
- Maintain drug accountability records and protocols for investigational studies.
- Provides education to support the preparation of antineoplastic, investigational and hazardous medications in accordance with USP <797> and <800> standards.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Associates degree in a health or related field, with 1 year of pharmacy experience, or the equivalent in education and experience preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment with accuracy.
- Ability to multitask and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain composure under stressful situations.
- Able to function independently within their scope of responsibility.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician with the NH Board of Pharmacy required.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification required.
- BLS Certification required within 30 days of hire for Pharmacy Technicians in the Retail or Specialty Pharmacy if required to administer immunizations
