Position Overview
The Make-Ready Engineer II is responsible for make-ready work associated with fiber to the home (FTTH) projects, including fiber installation assessments, coordination with pole owners, permitting, right-of-way, and related tasks to facilitate FTTH design and construction work. Given the geographic scope of responsibilities, the incumbent will need to occasionally travel to areas where construction activity is ongoing.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Learning and application of the NESC standards for wire attachments spacing regulations on a telephone pole, and in the midspans
- Production of analyzing telephone poles for Make Ready Engineering and Value Engineering analysis of pole attachment data
- Maintains project production needs for detailing Pole Data Reports by analyzing mathematically and judiciously approaching a new “proposed” communication attachment
- Data entry of mathematical analysis for wire attachments into set and standardized spreadsheets
- Critically assessing whether fiber optic routing should remain aerial or underground for a design team, using proprietary AEG knowledge
- Maintain good communication with employees to assure timely and efficient completion of jobs, proper communication of issues, and proper documentation of the entire process.
- Working closely with a design team to coordinate pole application permits and communicate the need for design changes per pole analyses.
Requirements
- Understanding of NESC communication and electrical pole spacing standards is required
- 1+ years of experience in FTTX/Fiber Networks and Telecommunications
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects coupled with experience in working with fast-paced engineering in a production environment
- Strong organizational skills
- Critical thinking and mathematical mind
- Flexibility to work shift differential hours
- Attention to detail is a must
- High integrity and work ethic
- SpidaMin/OCalc and GIS software proficiency preferred
- Must have good working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office and Google suite applications.
- Valid form of identification
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- May experience long hours of standing and moving
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
