JOB SUMMARY:

Provides supervision and rehabilitation to juveniles referred to the department and have been determined to be high-risk. Oversee the CORE Program (Creating Opportunities through Rehabilitation and Empowerment). Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

• Appear at court hearings weekly and/or provide testimony and documentation to the juvenile courts in order to update the courts on probation status of high-risk juvenile offenders.
• Provides coordination for determinate sentenced probationers who must appear before the court prior to their 19 th birthday.
• Supervises high-risk offenders who are being released from secure placement to assist with reintegration. 
• Supervises juveniles that are court ordered into the CORE Program.
• Prepares for monthly court proceedings and ensuring all parties are present for hearings.
• Coordinate and supervise monthly Life Skills Developmental Activities for juveniles in the CORE Program.
• Detains youth by seeking proper permission from the court (custody order) to ensure public safety by detaining high-risk offenders if conditions warrant.
• Coordinates electronic monitoring services and supervises offenders with ankle monitors.
• Coordinates counseling services for offenders to ensure court ordered counseling is being conducted and to verify progress.
• Contacts juveniles and their families with a minimum of two face-to-face contacts per week for high-risk offenders that includes office visits, school visits, and/or home visits; one phone contact per week. 
• Writes reports (social history, violation reports, case reviews, and detention reports) and documents the case files of high-risk offenders in order to prove an accurate account for the juvenile’s case and to substantiate detentions, revocations and other probation condition changes.
• Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

• Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or other state approved related field. Knowledge of adult justice system and criminal justice system preferred.
• 2 years experience in the field of juvenile justice. Use of electronic monitoring system and computer software preferred.
• Minimum 21 years of age.
• Good computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office & JCMS software.
• Good verbal and written skills, along with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
• Good organizational skills and the ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner.
• Eligible to be Certified as a Juvenile Probation Officer.
• May require being on call 24 hours a day and subject to irregular work hours.

SALARY RANGE: $36.96 hourly

This position may be eligible for additional compensation based upon state supplement and certification pay.

1) A felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years; a deferred adjudication for a felony against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years or current felony probation or parole.

2) A jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole.

3) Registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
