WHY THIS ROLE IS VALUABLE
As part of the Revantage, the paralegal will assist real estate attorneys and senior paralegals in connection with hospitality real estate acquisitions, dispositions, financings and other real estate matters. In performing the responsibilities, the paralegal will work with the legal team in the Chicago and Boca Raton offices, the Blackstone student housing and senior housing deal teams based in New York, as well as the members of the American Campus Communities and Longview Senior Housing teams. In addition, the paralegal will interact and work with the following Revantage departments: accounting, income tax, property tax, financial reporting, treasury, and risk services.
HOW YOU ADD VALUE
Real Estate Transactional Paralegal Functions:
- Assist attorneys with documentation, due diligence and closing of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, loans/refinancing and mergers
- Facilitate the collection, review and dissemination of due diligence materials including leases, service contracts, vehicle titles, franchise agreements, hotel management agreements, licenses and permits
- Order title commitments, surveys and zoning reports. Analyze title commitment exception documents against survey and identify potential risks
- Order and tract environmental and engineering reports
- Prepare non-disclosure agreements, access agreements, critical dates checklist and closing documents. Actively participating in all closing activities, including obtaining signatures, maintain organized copies of closing documents and ensuring a final closing book is received from counsel
- Communicate with title companies, surveyors and third-party vendors as needed to insure a smooth closing
- Periodically request organizational documents for entities in connection with real estate transactions. This includes forming, qualifying and structuring corporate entities, drafting certificates of authority and resolutions, and requesting certified copies formation documents or good standings
- Abstract Leases, Service Contracts, Franchise Agreements and Management Agreements
- Facilitate the transfer of permits and licenses
Administrative Functions
- Maintain Updated Workflow Mapping
- Assist with time entry, internal Reporting, filing and maintaining Trackers
- Office support (FedEx, copying, scanning, downloading, and saving closing books and obtaining copies from law firms for past or present deals)
- Editing/Drafting routine Legal Documents (create the first draft, edits, or research)
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree and Paralegal certificate
- Minumum of 3 years of experience with a law firm or similar in-house position working as a paralegal on complex real estate transactions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, as part of a team, and independently
- Must have strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
