The Academic Professionals of California (APC) is the union which represents the Unit 4 employees of the California State University System. Unit 4 employees provide vital services to the students at the 23 campuses such as admissions, academic advisement, financial aid, housing, disability services, learning resource services, career services and more. APC is a member-run organization and believes in hiring creative staff who will implement the vision of its members and who have an awareness of and dedication to workers’ rights and social justice.
Position Description
The APC Accounting Coordinator is responsible for the preparation, posting, and record keeping of APC’s financial data and basic HR functions, while insuring the accurate and appropriate recording of revenue and expenses.

As an exempt professional employee, the position of the APC Accounting Coordinator works independent of direct supervision and generally is given broad latitude to determine their day-to-day schedule and activities to carry out assigned responsibilities. Despite this latitude, certain organizational programs and priorities may also require, at times, that the APC Accounting Coordinator be more specifically directed and closely supervised. Because of the sensitive nature of the duties, this is a confidential position and a background check may be required.
As a representative of a union of highly educated university professionals, the APC Accounting Coordinator is expected to communicate well, both orally and in writing. They are also expected to possess and demonstrate a willingness and ability to work irregular and frequently long hours in a largely independent setting; an interest in undertaking work directly related to the professional livelihood and careers of university professionals; an ability to work effectively in a caring fashion with people who are at time under substantial personal and professional stress; the willingness and ability to work cooperatively with other staff, management, elected leadership, and APC members; and strong analytical and organizational skills.
The APC Accounting Coordinator functions largely as an assistant to the APC President, and the office location is currently in Sacramento. A hybrid schedule based on operational needs is available. As a statewide organization staff member, some travel is required as necessary to fulfill their responsibilities.
Required Knowledge and Experience
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:
Salary Range: $68,000 – $80,000
Salary: The anticipated hiring salary range is based on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time exempt position. APC offers a health benefit stipend or enrollment in APC health insurance program. APC employment includes 14 paid holidays plus 24 personal leave days to start.
