Program + Advising Lead
Explorations at UC Berkeley, Berkeley, CA
The Opportunity:
Explorations are 2-week experiential programs for high school students designed to live at the intersection of academics and industry. Our Explorations allow young people from around the world the opportunity to explore majors, careers, the state of research, and the future of the field, through hands-on learning and site visits.
- As a Programming + Advising Lead, you will help to shape a transformative residential and academic experience for our students.
- Among your various responsibilities, you will serve as a residential advisor, supervising a floor of students and helping to create an enriching, safe, and supportive student life experience.
- Your responsibilities will extend beyond just logistics; you'll be an integral part of our students' journey, providing support, guidance, and mentorship.
- As a bridge between the academic and residential spheres, you may also assist in classroom settings, offering support to our expert instructors and enhancing the overall learning environment.
- In addition, you will work with our Operations + Activities Coordinators to staff our office, coordinate engaging activities, and chaperone trips.
Programming + Advising Lead Responsibilities:
- Work with a co-Advisor to supervise a student floor and to provide a healthy, safe, and engaging living environment for students
- Remain on-call in the dorm every other night
- Assist Instructors, as needed, in the classroom and on class trips
- Chaperone students on weekend and evening trips throughout the Bay Area
- Serve as support staff in our office, communicating with families, representatives from our host institution, and industry and academic partners
- Collaborate with our Operations + Activities Coordinators on activities and other events
Applicant Requirements:
- 2+ years of post high school experience by the summer
- Availability to live and work on campus for the duration of the program
- CPR/First Aid certification (or a willingness to become certified)
- If certification is necessary, EXPLO will pay for the cost of the course.
Dates, Compensation, and Training
- Dates (in-person): June 27 - July 27, 2024, along with some remote training sessions in the spring; on-campus, in-person training will take place on Friday, June 28 and Saturday, June 29.
- Compensation: $4,000; room and board are provided for the duration of the program.
