ABOUT THE COMPANY: Our client develops an adoptive cell therapy to benefit patients from potentially curative treatment options.
LOCATION: San Mateo, CA. Hybrid. 2-3 days in office.
Moving to San Carlos in early 2024.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Company is looking for an experienced, knowledgeable, and highly organized Senior Accountant to join their Finance department.
The Senior Accountant will join a growing and a dynamic Finance team and interact with various functions in the organization. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the ideal candidate will be hands-on and responsible for preparing various journal entries, account reconciliation, flux analysis, and audit schedules. They will be heavily involved with month-end and quarter-end closing activities, and must have experience in publicly-traded companies.
WHAT YOU’LL DO: - Own and manage clinical trial, site, patient, and direct cost accruals
- Responsible for month-end close and preparation of monthly general journal accounting activities, such as cash, investments, prepaids, and various expense accruals and balance sheet accounts reconciliations
- Prepare trend and variance analysis for assigned accounts
- Collaborate with Finance team members to ensure timely and accurate analysis and completion of audit schedules as a public company
- Be part of a team that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve, and document accounting issues
- Assist with various aspects of external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and reviewing outstanding items lists
- Partner cross-functionally with Accounts Payable to establish best practices, as well as assist with on-going process refinement to improve the efficiency and accuracy of General Ledger accounting and reporting
- Assist in system implementation and enhancing accounting procedures to maintain and enhance the internal control environment over operational accounting processes and systems
- Prepare schedules and supporting information requests for tax filings and other compliance filings as needed
- Assume new responsibilities and perform ad hoc projects and process improvement as necessary
THE RIGHT STUFF: Required Experience & Qualifications - Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in accounting
- CPA a plus
- Biotech experience is preferred
- Proficient in Excel and the Microsoft Office suite
- Experience with NetSuite is desirable
- Strong analytical and accounting skills, and good understanding of US GAAP
- Experience working for a public company
- Excellent communication and administrative skills
- Exceptional organization and time management skills
- Ability to meet all assigned deadlines
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask
Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure: $100,000-$135,000. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
