Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager I, the incumbent engages in a diverse range of analytical and technical tasks to support the infrastructure of the Legislative Data Center (LDC). This role involves maintaining and analyzing production environments, addressing issues, executing backup and recovery procedures, as well as managing the testing, scheduling, and integration of software enhancements for both applications and system components.

Responsibilities encompass monitoring and resolving challenges within the production computing setups, overseeing system logs to detect operational security incidents, managing client/server systems, and administering the computer room, network, environmental, and peripheral equipment. The role demands a keen awareness of industry security standards and advancements to ensure adherence and ongoing enhancement within a controlled setting.

The incumbent will be assigned to either of two shifts (swing and grave shifts) and may work a five-day workweek inclusive of Saturdays and/or Sundays. Flexibility in working hours and the ability to work overtime are essential to provide round-the-clock coverage that aligns with the business requirements of the LDC's clientele.

Department Information

The Office of Legislative Counsel (OLC) is a small civil service department whose mission is to provide responsive nonpartisan and confidential legal services and information technology support services to the California State Legislature and in support of the legislative process. This position is located in the heart of downtown Sacramento. The State of California provides excellent health benefits and retirement options, sick leave and vacation accrual, and paid state holidays. OLC employees are excluded from collective bargaining and, therefore, receive enhanced benefits and do not contribute fair share.
